You actually may be right about the airshow. However most Remote controls would operate in other bands lower than GMRS. If it is also saying "altitude", then it might be a rather strong xmission from one of the remotes. --Ywsia (talk)
Likely correct about it being related to the AMA event. The transmitter is called a 'vario', commonly used on gliders. It's fairly common for them to use FRS/GMRS, as a suitable receiver is cheap and accessible. The tones changing pitch represent the change in altitude (measured with a barometric pressure sensor), giving the pilot feedback of lift/sink. --Mdmbc (talk) 03:16, 1 September 2019 (NZST)
