VDL-M2 (Known as VDL2 or VDLM2) is an evolution of ACARS that's 10 times faster and supports a wider range of information to transmit between aircraft and ground stations, such as flight information, aeronautical operational control, and air traffic control applications and services. VDL-M2 was developed by ARINC under Rockwell Collins. VDL-M2 is defined in ICAO documents as “Annex 10 Volume III - Communication Systems” and ”Manual on VHFVery High Frequency (30-300 MHz) Digital Link (VDL) Mode 2”.
